IRIS, a highly successful action drama that averaged 30% ratings throughout its run was going to have a spinoff: Athena: Goddess of War. Its success was bound to equal or even exceed that of its predecessor with the hype it created. But did it? The first two episodes’ ratings landed in the mid-20’s as did IRIS, but from there, it only got worse, dropping a couple percent with each episode until ratings were cut in half.

Why? There probably was quite a variety of reasons, ranging from actors to plot to competing dramas in that time slot.

I, too, initially thought that Athena lagged behind IRIS in many aspects. But even so, there was something about Yoon Hyein, played by Soo Ae, that caught my attention. Character complexity and change.
